By now you’ve no doubt read an article or two about the negative effects of sitting. In addition to being a leading causative factor of low back pain, too much sitting has been linked to a range of health problems, including heart disease, diabetes and premature death. One study showed a 15% greater risk of dying within three years for those who sat more than eight hours a day when compared to those who sat for less than four hours a day.
Despite your already knowing this there’s a good chance that you’re sitting down as you read this article. Eschewing sitting completely is unfeasible for the vast majority of us but there is a move that is fantastic for quickly undoing some of the effects of sitting: Sit to Stand, AKA the Squat.
Here’s how to do it:
Stand up from your desk, and then sit down. Repeat 10-20 times. That’s it! It’s that simple. Set a recurring alarm on your phone (there are a multitude of apps to choose from) to go off every thirty minutes while you’re at your desk and do your squats every time it does.
