Welcome to the Mount Pleasant Village Business Improvement Area! Here are a few things you need to know about being a member:

Membership is automatic.

If you are a business or property owner located in a commercially zoned space within our boundaries, you’re a member! As we are carefully governed by the City of Toronto, we cannot make exceptions to this.

All member notices have now migrated to the members’ group on Facebook. If you don’t have a Facebook account with which to access the notices, please contact us at info@MountPleasantVillage.ca

Members Benefits

  • You get a vote! Every year, the BIA organizes an annual general meeting where members are invited to come and find out more about the BIA’s initiatives, vote on the following year’s budget, and other matters. It’s also a great way to meet future clients!
  • You get your own directory page. This allows your business to list your relevant contact information, a picture of the business, a description of the business, and more. 
  • Get your business promoted on the front page of this website. Additional exposure for your events and promotions. Just email us the details.
  • Access to the members’ discussion group on Facebook.This group features news from the BIA, news from the City of Toronto, news from fellow merchants, and best of all, advice and help from fellow members. 
  • Benefit from and participate in BIA initiatives. We regularly engage in various initiatives including special events, marketing campaigns and much more.
  • Access to a helping hand. If you have questions about the neighbourhood, government programs, bylaws, marketing, tech things, other businesses, or some general help, let us know. As a collaborative BIA, we connect members who are looking for or offering things to other businesses.
  • We help keep you informed. There’s a ton of ‘noise’ out there, so we aim to cut through that noise and provide our members with concise and relevant information as it arises.

What we need from you

In order to maximize your benefits as a member, we ask you provide the following information:

  1. (1-2 min)Send us an email at info@MountPleasantVillage.ca to say hello. We’ll then add you to our members’ email list. This is critical as 98% of our communications are by email
  2. (1-2 min) Join our FB Members’ Group here
  3. (5-15 min) Fill out your business’ information. The information will be used to create your directory page and get your social media streams on our radar. In turn, we may share and promote some of your posts via our official MPV accounts
  4. (1-5 minutes) Add us to your Social Media accounts.

  5. (1-2 minutes) Let us know if you’d like to accept MPV dollars. These are vouchers that are typically purchased from the BIA as gifts, or handed out by the BIA as occasional prizes to the general public. You can treat these as cash. In turn, if you receive such vouchers, send us a quick email and we’ll reimburse you for the full amount (1-14 days). This program provides the recipients with an incentive to buy from you. MPV Dollars exist in $25 and $5 denominations. Low res sample.
  6. Ongoing – Email us your promotions, news, job postings, spaces for lease, etc… and we’ll help you get the word out. Alternatively, you can also tag us in your social media postings.

How We’re Funded

The BIA is funded by a levy applied to the property tax bill sent out each year, and the amount of the levy is correlated to the square footage of the property. 

The property owner will either pass that fee along to the tenant, pay it in full, or share in the cost. There are no other fees for membership.

Once per year, we hold our Annual General Meeting where members vote on the following year’s budget.
