The Granite Brewery

Business Name & Address

The Granite Brewery and Restaurant, 245 Eglinton at Mt. Pleasant

Brief description of your business

The Granite combines a full service restaurant with a full brewery on site. We have over 300 seats inside and out as well as a retail beer store. We have been catering to local families and beer lovers since 1991. We offer a broad range of food on our menu with hopefully something for everyone. Our menu is complemented with 12-14 beers brewed on-site. Our beer is also available in about 25 pubs and restaurants around town and in the LCBO.

When did you open in Mount Pleasant Village?

 August, 1991

Why did you pick Mount Pleasant Village?

We wanted a good mix of residential and business in an upscale neighbourhood.

What is the most meaningful comment you've received since you've opened?

Numerous customers over the years have told us we have "ruined their lives" since once they have got a taste for Granite ales they just can't enjoy other beers any more and they have to keep coming back!

What specialty sets your business apart from competitors?

We have a number of features which work to our advantage, free parking in a busy area, not one but 2 patios one of which is in a secluded private garden, very unique English style ales brewed on site and of course great food!

What were you doing before you opened your business?

Colorizing black and white movies.

What has changed about your business since you first opened?

People have become much more "beer educated" and very discerning in their tastes. There were not many craft beer lovers in 1991 but there are lots today, thankfully.

What do you enjoy most about your business?

Meeting the neighbours, watching their kids grow up and becoming friends with so many people in the area. It is a great community.

What's a fun fact about your business?

Beer is fun, people are fun...if you put them together, how can you miss?
