Member Spotlight: Wildbird

Business Name & Address

 Wildbird, 622 Mount Pleasant Rd.

Brief description of your business

Wildbird focuses on local, reclaimed one of a kind furniture pieces and art for your home in the city or country. We represent artisans from the local Toronto scene and from around Ontario. We will also always remain loyal to our roots- the birds. We sell the finest birdseed that is GMO free ( we recommend the same for your food!) and we have a focused selection of high quality - squirrel free feeders to choose from. We pride ourselves on outgoing and friendly service.

When did you open in Mount Pleasant Village?

Why did you pick Mount Pleasant Village?

Mount Pleasant Village is a great neighbourhood. The village has always had a beautiful and eclectic mix of boutique shops- and there is a great sense of community that surrounds us and supports us. It is like home to me.

What is the most meaningful comment you've received since you've opened?

I know people come to Wildbird for a lot of reasons. We sell a lot of mindfulness and spiritually based books. Sometimes it can be the right book at the right time-that can help someone over a rough patch. Making a difference in peoples lives- those are the most meaningful comments we get."

What specialty sets your business apart from competitors?

I am a strong believer in customer service and customer care. It sounds cliche- but really it is not. We love our customers.

What were you doing before you opened your business?

I had worked in a few offices in Toronto...and realized..

What has changed about your business since you first opened?

The store has evolved. It started out initially strictly as a birdseed and bird feeder business. It has grown alongside of me. The store still caters to our feathered friends...and we also like to help people feather their own nests too!

What do you enjoy most about your business?

The people. The creativity. The evolution.

Any exciting news or events happening in the next 6 months in your business?

I have decided to grow up and get into the modern age! So I am working on a website and a blog...and I will be introducing a service component to wild bird. For years I have loved working with energy and space and so I am bringing that more to the forefront of what I do at wildbird.

What's a fun fact about your business?

  We buy 90 percent locally!
