Business Name & Address
Snapdragon Designs, 622 Mt Pleasant Rd
Brief description of your business
When I was younger I had a favourite store that I couldn’t wait to visit during summer vacations. It had the most beautiful interesting clothes, jewellery, accessories… and neat little “finds” from around the world. I’ve tried to create that kind of a store, along with my own designs of cashmere sweaters & wraps. I really want people to be excited when the come in and love the experience of exploring & shopping at Snapdragon.
When did you open in Mount Pleasant Village?
We opened in May of 2017 and have since moved to the beautiful space that we’re in now.
Why did you pick Mount Pleasant Village?
Its my neighbourhood, where my kids go to school, where friends live… and I love the community vibe. I also had 2 good friends with stores nearby who encouraged me to join in the fun!
What specialty sets your business apart from competitors?
Tunics in November, Beach wear in January, Cashmere all year round!
We have it all – dresses, totes, sandals, hats etc! We also love to support small artisans around the globe, so you’ll find lots of one-of-a-kind items, from hand made baskets to beaded accessories – there are little discoveries all over the shop! The best though, is the personal service in finding the perfect gift or outfit…no pressure… we want you coming in often!
What’s a fun fact about your business?
If I can, I hand deliver the order as fast as possible – I’ve surprised people by having it at their door an hour after they’ve placed the online order! Customer service is #1.
What were you doing before you opened your business?
I’ve had this business for 16 years, but always managed it from home, doing little pop ups here & there so I could be around for our 3 boys. I have also had a summer store for 7 years up in Muskoka, between the Rosseau Hotel & Cleveland’s House, in the SWS Marina. Its seasonal, so opening a full time store in Toronto was a natural extension.
What do you enjoy most about your business?
I love finding new artisans in far away places! There is so much incredible talent around the world, and so many handicrafts that are at risk of dying out unless we support & showcase them!
What has changed about your business since you first opened?
The selection of items offered has expanded greatly, and I love that I can now showcase all these beautiful items in such a gorgeous store setting!
Any exciting news or events happening in the next 6 months in your business?
Hmmm…new & exciting in April 2020…well…once we figure our way around this darn Covid 19 virus, opening back up will be new & exciting in itself. Apart from that, you can shop online at www.snapdragondesigns.ca – we’d love the support!
What is the most meaningful compliment you’ve received since you’ve opened?
I get so many people coming in saying they LOVE absolutely everything, but there are a few that drive from way outside of the city & are so excited to be there that they plan a whole day around it & bring friends – thats a pretty big compliment!
