Call to Artists – 2023 Large Mural at 542 Mt Pleasant Rd

Large Mural Opportunity

The Mount Pleasant Village BIA is seeking an artist to complete a stunning large wall mural at 542 Mount Pleasant Rd’s North facing wall. The work will be one mural completed on the below-pictured wall, which is a highly-visible location and fosters a vibrant community.

Located on the north-facing wall of 542 Mount Pleasant Rd, the proposed mural will be prominently positioned and easily visible to pedestrians and motorists travelling south on Mount Pleasant. Situated in a bustling and busy part of midtown, this vibrant artwork is sure to catch the eyes of passersby, adding to the dynamic energy of the area.

Our aspiration for this mural is to celebrate the essence of our community and the invaluable contributions of our members. With a focus on our collaborative spirit and Mount Pleasant’s storied history, we aim to showcase the harmonious coexistence between our beloved parkland and the vibrant midtown community. The dedicated all-matters committee, comprised of individuals with diverse expertise spanning marketing and streetscape, seeks to create a visual narrative that depicts the growth of our area and the interplay between its various elements

Project & Timeline Details

The wall is approximately 18 metres long by 8 metres tall.
Ideally, the entire wall should be painted, but innovative ideas that use the top and bottom parts are welcome.
The Artist selected will provide 2 significantly different renderings for Community and Marketing Committee feedback.
Commission: $7,500
The artist will be responsible for all costs of material and the rental of any equipment that might be required.

How to apply

Application Deadline: June 23rd, 2023

Applications should consist of:

A brief summary about yourself
A portfolio of up to 5 recently completed outdoor and/or mural work
A brief artist statement outlining your interest in this project, showing relevant experience, ability, and general artistic approach.
Between 3 and 5 pages or slides.
